ANNUAL REPORT

2025 was a significant year for Alpha, with an estimated 2.8 million participants across 158 countries; a 31% increase and 12 new countries choosing to run Alpha, compared to 2024. The launch of the Alpha Youth Series contributed significantly, with more than 47,000 courses run for young people, accounting for 45% of all Alphas globally.

While renewal is occurring in the West, the gospel is spreading rapidly in the Global South, where church attendance and spiritual hunger are rising. This presents a unique opportunity to extend the reach of the good news.

Our vision is simple but bold: to make Alpha accessible to everyone, everywhere, providing spaces to explore the Christian faith and encounter Jesus.

A Season of Opportunity

Renewed interest in Christianity is evident, with a rise in church attendance, especially among young adults and men, driven by curiosity about spirituality and a sense of belonging. Churches fostering genuine relationships can lead this growth.

 Alpha Youth Series

The new Alpha Youth Series offers young people a fresh way to explore big questions about life, faith, and purpose. The Alpha Youth Series has expanded its global reach, offering 31 subtitled versions. Additionally, it is available in ten dubbed versions, including Mandarin, Russian, Thai, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

 The NEW Alpha Series

The new Alpha Series has officially entered production. Nicky Gumbel and a dedicated team of writers and producers have completed theological reviews, creative design, and detailed production planning. Our team has begun filming, and we plan to complete this significant project and launch the new Alpha Series at the Leadership Conference in May 2027.

We sincerely thank you for your continued support and friendship. Your prayer and generosity drive Alpha’s mission, helping us equip the church to share Jesus’ love and the message of the gospel worldwide. We’re experiencing growing momentum thanks to our joint efforts as Jesus transforms lives.

Thank you - we couldn’t do this without you

Monique’s
Story

From Despair to
New Life in Christ

With a light in her eyes, Monique recounts how different her life looks since encountering Jesus through Alpha.

“No matter who you are or what you’ve done, God loves you and he’s there for you.”

On 22 June 2021, Monique Fernanda Da Cruz Leitão planned to end her life. She left affectionate messages for loved ones, told her boss she wouldn’t be at work, and wrote a farewell letter. “A suicidal person just wants to exterminate pain,” she says. “I didn’t want to die – I just had no hope for tomorrow.”

Born in Belém, northern Brazil, Monique was raised by her grandmother and step-grandfather, whom she called her father. When she was 14, he was murdered during a robbery. Grief drove her into depression, and after moving to Rio, she began drinking, taking drugs, and self-harming.

She often stayed in psychiatric clinics, feeling safer there than at home. “I used to write letters to God,” she recalls, “asking, ‘Why do you hide from me?’” Though drawn to church, she felt unanswered, unimportant, and increasingly rebellious.

In January 2021, an Uber driver invited her to Atitude Baptist Church. The visit brought her peace, but travel costs kept her from returning regularly. “I prayed, ‘God, if you care about me, use this church because it’s where I feel peace,’” she says. Four months passed without what she saw as an answer – until the day before she planned to end her life.

At the mall where she worked, she helped two men who later returned saying they were from Atitude Baptist. They told her God had prompted them not to leave without speaking to her, though they didn’t know why. Monique broke down, sharing her pain. The men called their pastor, Everton.

“That day, I knew it was a sign – God talking to me,” she says. Pastor Everton invited her to Alpha, and she went the very next day. “The first day was amazing. I felt loved, cared for. I was ashamed of my tattoos and casual clothes, but no one even noticed.

I realised I’d wanted to stay in psychiatric clinics because I felt accepted there – but here was a whole new world, where I was accepted just as I was.”

Through Alpha, Monique’s view of God changed. “I believe everything happens for a purpose. No matter who you are or what you’ve done, God loves you and is there for you.”

Since encountering Jesus, Monique no longer self-harms or needs hospital care. She met her husband in a church small group, and they now have a daughter. “I always talk to her about God,” she smiles.  Pushing back her hair, she reveals a tattoo on her neck: a cross formed by two dates – the day she first attended Alpha and the day she was baptised. “This is where I was going to cut to kill myself. Now it’s the place I started living.”

Monique’s life, once marked by despair, now radiates hope – a living testament to God’s power to transform through the love and welcome she found at Alpha.

Your generous support has made an eternal difference in the lives of millions around the world. On behalf of those around the world who have received new life, healing, reconciliation, forgiveness and hope for the future…

Thank
you

LEADERSHIP

CONFERENCE

The Leadership Conference 2025 (LC25) was a unique opportunity for leaders in every sphere – across contexts, traditions, generations, and cultures – to gather as one, encounter Jesus, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Our aim was to grow in Christ-centred leadership, which has the power to change lives and transform the world.

LC25 took place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 5th and 6th May 2025. 4,965 people from 82 countries and 31 denominations attended.

Drawing on lessons from past conferences and feedback from surveys and key stakeholders, LC25 explored areas for innovation, with a particular focus on enhancing the experience for younger leaders.

There was an increased emphasis on prayer, establishing the Royal

“I regret all the years I haven’t come to this conference. I will never make that mistake again.”

- LC25 Canadian Delegate

Albert Hall once again as a ‘House of Prayer’ for the two days of the conference, with ongoing prayer and worship through the breaks. Participants also heard heartfelt Alpha testimonies. This combination of teaching, personal stories, and reflective spaces encouraged attendees to be inspired, challenged, and equipped to lead with integrity and faith in their own contexts. Highlights included talks, interviews, and seminars from Nicky Gumbel, Priscilla Shirer, Rachel Gardner, Pastor Andres Spyker, Dr. Arthur Brooks, and Bear Grylls.

“The hospitality at the heart of Alpha mirrors the heart of God—a God who always welcomes.”

Father Higor

Renewal in Caltanissetta Through Alpha

When Fathers Higor and Vilinus arrived at the parish of Sant’Agata in Caltanissetta, Sicily, they encountered a church on the brink of closure.

The once-vibrant parish was nearly empty—quiet, grey, and held together only by the persistent prayers of five faithful women who gathered daily, begging God to send a priest and a renewed community. Everything inside was in disrepair, and the atmosphere reflected years of decline. Reviving the parish meant more than cleaning or repairing a building; it required reestablishing identity, joy, and spiritual life.

To reach those who would never attend Mass, the brothers sought new approaches. Their first Alpha course was launched in two parishioners’ homes where people were welcomed and made to feel comfortable enough to explore questions of faith without pressure. Among the small group was a young man who did not believe in God. His powerful encounter with Jesus marked the beginning of a remarkable renewal. His unexpected and deeply personal encounter with Jesus became the spark that ignited a wider transformation —especially among the youth.

Local teenagers who had initially come out of curiosity soon found themselves profoundly moved by their experiences of the Holy Spirit. What started with a handful of young people eventually grew into a dynamic youth ministry of nearly 200. These young people didn’t just gather; they served. They visited the sick, walked alongside those battling addiction, supported parish life, and helped run multiple Alpha programmes.

As Alpha continued to take root, the community’s transformation expanded beyond spiritual formation. The parish founded a local association dedicated to helping vulnerable families—many of them Muslim immigrants—by offering food, clothing, medicine, and support for pregnant women. Over time, this outreach grew to support around 600 families, becoming a powerful expression of Christian hospitality and compassion. It also reshaped the church’s identity as a place where love was not theoretical but tangible.

Alpha’s impact even reached those behind bars. In the local prison, 120 inmates completed the course, encountering hope in a place where many believed none existed. Their stories became a profound reminder that no life is beyond the reach of grace.

Within the parish itself, attitudes shifted dramatically. What had once been reluctant, dutiful attendance at Mass transformed into joyful, eager belonging. Parishioners no longer felt obligated to show up—they felt drawn in. They felt at home.

Father Higor attributes this to Alpha’s warm atmosphere of welcome. For him, the hospitality at the heart of Alpha mirrors the heart of God—a God who always welcomes. Father Vilinus echoes this, noting that people are touched by the genuine love they experience through the Alpha community. That love becomes the doorway through which many encounter God for the first time.

Today, more than 500 people enter the church each week—a powerful testimony to how Alpha has rekindled faith, helped revive a parish and led many into a genuine, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Marriage Course

In November 2025, the Alpha South Africa team hosted a Marriage & Ministry Tour in South Africa with Nicky and Sila Lee, visiting Johannesburg, Gqeberha, Durban, and Cape Town, reaching over 2,000 people. The tour’s impact was remarkable, with many couples feeling inspired, challenged, and renewed in love. Several participants described The Marriage Course as a turning point in their marriages, with some calling it the catalyst for restoration and healing in their relationships.

The Bible with Nicky and Pippa Gumbel

NEW RESOURCE

30 Days

Launched in October 2025, 30 Days is a new multimedia Bible resource from Nicky and Pippa Gumbel, designed to make Scripture accessible to anyone exploring or reconnecting with faith. Based on Nicky’s book, the series offers 30 short daily episodes that take viewers on a month-long journey through the Bible—from creation to the cross—while addressing relevant topics such as forgiveness, loneliness, fear, shame, and life after death. 30 Days is available in video, audio, and written formats on YouTube and the YouVersion Bible App. This resource provides a flexible way for people at any stage of faith to engage with the Bible.

ALPHA SERIES

The Alpha Series has officially entered the production stage. Nicky Gumbel, along with a dedicated team of writers and producers, has finished the theological reviews, creative design, and detailed planning. Our team has started filming Nicky Gumbel, Stephen Foster (Rector of St. Aldates Church, Oxford), as well as testimonial stories, vox pops, and other content. We aim to complete production and post-production and launch the new Alpha Series at the Leadership Conference in May 2027.

The English version of the Alpha Series will serve as a foundation for subtitling, dubbing, and adaptation into multiple languages and contexts, expanding its global reach. We don’t just want Alpha to run in more places with more people; we want to do so in a way that has a transformational impact on people’s lives and communities, inspiring people and churches to engage with evangelism in an appealing, culturally appropriate way.

ALPHA YOUTH SERIES

The new Alpha Youth Series (AYS) offers young people a fresh way to explore big questions about life, faith, and purpose.

Since its launch, AYS has expanded to feature 31 subtitle versions and 10 fully dubbed versions, including Mandarin, Russian, Thai, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Ukrainian.

Global Renewal in the Catholic Context

The Catholic Church, representing over half the world’s Christian population, is undergoing a global renewal marked by a desire for deeper personal encounter with Jesus. This renewal is evident as dioceses, parishes, ministries, movements, schools, and organisations reaffirm their commitment to realising a vision for evangelisation.

Catholic churches are embracing practical and collaborative approaches to the revitalisation of the Church, particularly in engaging the emerging generations, supporting the development of missionary leaders, and influencing the culture of Catholic communities.

Lewis Muhirwa,   24 years old

“I decided to host Alpha at my university, the East African University, in Rwanda. We began with five people, but within two sessions, the group grew to fifteen. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, curiosity, and openness. Many of them gave their lives to Christ, and by the time we completed the course, several participants were eager to start their own Alpha courses.

One of the most powerful outcomes was seeing a close friend of mine join Alpha, encounter Jesus, and experience real transformation. Today, he is not only walking with God but also serving as a host alongside me. Together, we are committed to expanding Alpha across Rwanda. Looking back, I can only thank God for how He has used Alpha in my life and in the lives of others around me. What began with coffee and conversation has become a movement of salvation and discipleship. I believe this is only the beginning, and by God’s grace, we won’t stop until every corner of our country has had the chance to hear and experience the gospel through Alpha.”

“What began with coffee and conversation has become a movement of salvation and discipleship”.

FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

We are so thankful for all that God has done around the world through Alpha during the last 12 months. Our prayer is that people will come to know the love of Jesus through our ministry together, and it is so encouraging that 2.8 million people participated in an Alpha course in 2025.

The spirit of God is working in extraordinary ways across nations, generations, cultures and traditions, and we are excited to see so many lives transformed.

We couldn’t be more grateful for your prayers and support, which help make all this possible.

Something sacred happens when generations come together in faith.

“One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendour of your majesty – and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They tell of the power of your awesome works – and I will proclaim your great deeds.”

 Psalm 145:4–6, New International Version
