Africa

Our priorities across the region were to focus on youth, regional growth, new products and resources, and increased digital engagement.

Youth

60% of all courses run across Sub-Saharan Africa were Alpha Youth, serving young people and young adults under 25.

In South Africa, Alpha hosted two β€œYouth One Hunnid” events (hunnid is short for 100). Anyone with a passion for sharing the transformative power of the gospel with youth was invited to join for encouragement and equipping to reach the next generation.

As a leader, you can easily forget that young people need to be a part of the β€˜building of youth’. The Gen-Z panel reminded me that there are young people who want to play a part in God’s kingdom and want to be different from what society says. It was a refreshing perspective of what young people long for in their lives and the part they want to play when building their youth ministry.

Regional growth

Alpha Kenya had 8,000 individuals from 4,500 churches and organisations attend Alpha training, envisioning, and experience events.

Alpha South Africa provided monthly envisioning and training events, leading to a 41% growth in the number of churches running Alpha across the country.

We saw significant growth in both Zimbabwe and Nigeria to an estimated 35,000 participants across both regions, as well as launching new work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Uganda.

Digital engagement

The Alpha Africa Instagram account was launched in April 2023. Follow us:

Moses, 22, struggled with a history of drugs and crime. He met a man in his village who had encountered Jesus and was at peace. His new friend invited him to Alpha. During Alpha, Moses’ life was powerfully transformed. He was baptised and became a member of the church in March 2023. Since then, everyone has noticed the change in Moses and the impact God has had on his life. He now co-leads a Bible study in his village every week. His mother and sister have become Christians, and his story has inspired many others to follow in his footsteps.
